ピストル苦手どす…
現役海兵隊員のころ、ピストル射撃をしたことがあります。たまたま射撃場の手伝いをしていたら、「ピストルの弾が余ってるから撃たないか？」って２曹に聞かれて、喜んで引き受けました。ペレッタM9の9mmピストルを渡され、25メートル先の標的を狙いましたが…みごとに当たらなかった。15発とも全部ハズレ。
アレ？私はM16小銃で500メートル先の標的を撃って特級なのに、ピストルは全くダメとはどーゆーこと？それもたかが25メートル先のデカイ標的に対して。射撃手のプライドがこの悲惨な事態を許すはずがありません！でも、なぜピストルを上手く撃てないの？(>_<)
…原因は、グリップでした。私のちっちゃい手は、ベレッタの大きいグリップを握りきれない。正確には、持てるけど、指がトリガーに届かないんです。ガーン。ベレッタの弾倉は、普通のピストルのようにシングルカラムではなく（弾が縦に一列並んでる弾倉）、ダブルカラム（弾が縦にジグザグに並べてる弾倉）だったんで、その分グリップが太かったんです。両手で持って、なんとか指がトリガーを引けるけど、不安定で狙いにくい。どうあがいても、的に当たりもしない。15発、また15発、どれもハズレ。
マジギレした私はついに…
「ムキャー！」と叫び、左手でピストルを握りながら、足元の石ころを右手で拾い、標的に投げた！皮肉なことに的のど真ん中直撃！（私はキャッチボールと手りゅう弾の投てき得意ですから。）2曹は怒ると思ってたが、逆に爆笑してました。「オメー、ピストル下手だな。しょうがねぇ、無理に狙って撃つより、あそこのセーフティバレルの中に全部撃ち込め。オレもあと50発ほど処理しておくよ」と言った2曹は、標的をバンバン撃ってました。私はしかたなく残り何十発の弾を、セーフティバレルに（砂が半分ぐらい入ってるドラムカン）撃ちこみました。手だけ疲れて悲しかったなぁ…
ライフルと手りゅう弾を持たせば天下無敵な私は、ピストルだけはダメでした。(T_T)
My pistol skills suck...
When I was in the Marines, I had a chance to shoot pistols. When I was helping out with at the shooting range, a Staff Sergeant asked me, "Hey, we have a bunch of 9mm rounds left over, so do you wanna help me use it up?" I gladly took up the offer. I was handed a Beretta M9 9mm pistol, so I tried to aim for the 25 meter target, but... no hits. All 15 rounds missed the target.
Huh? I could shoot a 500m target with an M16 rifle and get an expert badge, but why do I suck with this pistol? At a huge target only 25 meters away? I couldn't accept this pathetic situation because of my pride as a shooter! So, why couldn't I shoot well with a pistol? (>_<)
...The reason was the grip. My tiny hand couldn't grip the pistol properly. To be more accurate, I could hold it all right, but my finger couldn't reach the trigger. Crap. A Beretta's grip was a lot thicker than an average pistol--which usually has a single column cartridge (one vertical line of rounds in the clip)--because it was a double column cartridge (rounds stacked vertically in a zigzag pattern). I tried to hold it with both hands and somehow brought my finger to pull the trigger, but the weird positioning was unstable and made it hard to aim. No matter what I tried, I couldn't hit the damn target. 15 rounds, and another 15 rounds, but still no hits.
I totally lost it and...
"Arrrrrgh!!" As I held the pistol in my left hand, I stooped down to pick up a stone from the ground with my right hand and threw it at the target! Ironically, the stone hit dead on, bull's eye! (I'm pretty good at playing catch and throwing hand grenades.) I thought the Staff Sergeant was going to get mad at me, but he was laughing his butt off instead. He said, "Man, you suck with pistols. Oh well, don't try too hard aiming for the target. Just shoot off the rounds in the safety barrel over there. I'll finish off about 50 more rounds while you do that," as he kept hitting the black target with all his rounds. I went over to the safety barrel, a drum can half-filled with sand, and shot the rounds into it. It was depressing, and only made my hands sore...
I can take on the world with rifles and grenades, but my pistol skills totally suck. (T_T)
