「ピザボックス」とは…？

海兵隊員がピストルやライフル射撃で特級を取得すると、クロスピストル、またはクロスライフルのバッジを制服に付けます。高い点数を取れた時のカッコいいバッジなので、制服に付けると気分が良いです。(^_^)

中級の場合は、見た目が普通の十字架の形をしたバッジで、特級を取り損ねたプチ恥じらいを感じるつつ、でもまあまあな点数取れたので、そんなに気分は悪くないです。

でも…合格ギリギリの初級を取得した時は、かなり恥ずかしいものです。まー、たしかに合格したんで、その年の基準を何とかクリアしたからホッとしますが、もう少し良い点数取りたかったなーと言う気持ちがいっぱいで、早く次の検定で点数塗り替えるぞ！と思うハズ。でもそれまではほぼ1年、あのダサい、四角いバッジを付けなければなりません。モチーフは円形射的の形ですが、どう考えても、四角い箱に丸いビザが入ってるようにしか見えません。従って、その際に呼ばれるあだ名は「ピザボックス」です。恥ずかしい！(T_T)

A "pizza box"...?
When a Marine shoots expert with a pistol or rifle, they get to put on a badge with cross-pistols or cross-rifles. The badge looks really cool, and you're proud of scoring high, so you feel good with this badge on. (^_^)

If you shoot sharpshooter, you get a cross-shaped badge, so even though you're a little disappointed for not shooting expert, at least you scored okay, so you don't feel too bad.

But... if you barely passed and shot marksman, it's really embarrassing. Well, you'll be relieved that you met the minimum standard for that year, but you'd wish you had scored better than that, and probably couldn't wait for next year's quals so you could shoot better! But until then, you'll have to wear the really lame, square badge for about a year. The motif is the round target, but no matter how you look at it, it looks like a box with a pizza sitting in it. Thus, it's called a "pizza box." Oh the shame and embarrassment of having it on! (T_T)
