アメリカ合衆国の独立記念日

今日、私みたいなメタボな一般アメリカ国民がこうやってダラダラとブログを書けるのは、２００年以上前に、イギリスから独立を勝ち取るため、命をかけた戦いをしてくれた初代の愛国者が多大な犠牲をしてくれたおかげです。アメリカ独立記念日とは、一時でもいいからそのことを思い出し、かつての愛国者たちへ敬意を示す日であります。アメリカ本土ではパレードが開かれ、花火を見たり、星条旗を掲げたり、ホットドッグを食べたりのエライ賑わいだと思います。

余談ですが、うちの旦那に「じゃあ、日本の建国記念の日はいつ？」と聞いたら、「えっと、いつだっけ？」と困った顔をしたんです。「自分の国が建国した日を知らんのか！？もっと日本国民としての誇りを持てー！」と気合の入ったケリを一発お見舞いしました。(>_<)

US Independence Day
Today, a fat-ass American citizen like me can lazily write in my blog because over 200 years ago, our first patriots put their lives on the line to declare independence from England and made great sacrifices. The US Independence Day is a day in which Americans pay respect, even for a moment, to the founding fathers of this nation. Back in the States, there will be great celebrations at parades where people will be watching fireworks, waving US flags, and eating hot dogs.

On a side note, I asked my husband, "So when is Japan's National Foundation Day?" but he answered, "Umm, gosh when was it?" I blurted, "You don't even know your own freaking country's founding day!? Have more pride as a Japanese citizen, dammit!" as I kicked some motivation into him. (>_<)
