海兵隊は死んでませんよ…

軍事通訳をする時、日本側の通訳がたまーに発音を間違えるのは「Marine Corps（海兵隊)」です。正しい発音は「マリン・コー」または「マリン・コア」ですが、どうしても「Corps」の「p」と「s」の文字を意識してしまい、「マリン・コープス」と発音することがあるみたい。それを逆に英語に訳すると「Marine Corpse（海兵・死体）」になります…(T_T) 私は日本側の通訳にすかさず「あの、我々は死んでませんから」とツッコンじゃいます。

あと、めったに無いんですが、もう一つの間違いは「マリン・コープ」で、意味は「Marine Cope/Coop（海兵・農協？生協？）」…それで私のツッコミは「我々は農協ではなく、一応軍ですから」です。

「Corps」の「p」と「s」は発音されないので、発音には十分気をつけてくださいネ。(^^;

When I'm interpreting for the military, the interpreter on the Japanese side sometimes pronounces the phrase "Marine Corps" incorrectly. The correct pronunciation is "mareen core" or a close one is "mareen koh", but the Japanese-side interpreter gets stuck on the letters "ps" in "Corps" and pronounces it "Marine Corpse"...(T_T) Of course, I jump in immediately to comment, "Umm, we're not dead, thanks."

Also, though it doesn't happen often, they might mistakingly pronounce it "mareen cope/Co-op" (Japanese pronounce Co-op as 'cope')... to which I'd usually comment, "We're uhh, the military, not the Co-op, thanks."

The "ps" in "Corps" is silent, so please be careful with the pronunciation.(^^;
