株式会社に感謝？

今回の発音違いシリーズ第２回は「Cooperation」(ご協力）です。よく使われるフレーズはご協力ありがとうございますの「Thank you for your cooperation」ですが、なぜか最後の単語「cooperation」に、余分な「r」が入ってしまう日本側の通訳。言葉を忠実に発音したいがためのいわゆる「やり過ぎ発音」の一つです。

どこに余分の「r」が入るかというと、意味を変えるほどの場所です。「Corporation」（株式会社）になっちゃうんです。正しい発音は「コーアプレーション」なのに、なぜか「コーポレーション」になってしまう。コツとして、「cooperation」を「コー」と「アプレーション｣として、二つに分けて発音してみてください。強調する部分は「コー」ではなく「アプ」です。「コー・アプレーション」となります。

…ですので、「株式会社に感謝します」ではなく「ご協力ありがとうございます」が英語で言えるようになると思います。(^_^)

Mispronunciation Series Part 2 -- "Cooperation". The commonly stated phrase is "Thank you for your cooperation" but for some reason, the Japanese-side interpreter adds an extra "r" into "cooperation". I believe they are trying too hard to pronounce correctly, resulting in one of those "overdone pronunciations".

So where does the extra "r" fall into? In a critical spot that pretty much changes its meaning, becoming a "corporation". The correct pronunciation is "co-operation", but they say, "corporation." One method to say it well is to separate "cooperation" into two parts, "co" and "operation." Also, stress "op", not "co". It should come out like this: "cooperation".

...so, instead of saying "Thank you for your corporation", I hope you'll be able say "Thank you for your cooperation" in English. (^_^)
