アライブ、完結。

「アライブ〜最終進化的少年」マンガは21巻で完結しました。なるほど、そーゆーエンディングになったんだ、と。生と死を考えさせられる興味深い作品で、そして何よりも面白いストーリーでした。何度読みなおしても飽きない漫画です。(^_^)

ここからはかなり悲しい内容ですが…

先日、アニメ化を断念したという発表で少々ガッカリしてたんですが、そのあと、河島先生が6月15日にお亡くなりになられたと訃報があった時は、涙が滝のように流れ、悲しさでいっぱいでした。
アライブを英訳したおかげでこのマンガとそれを作った原作の河島先生と出会うことができました。今思うと闘病中に相当無理をして、去年わざわざ沖縄まで遊びに来て下さったなんて…言葉が見つかりません。

河島先生が息をひき取る1週間前に病院からわざわざ私に「実は自分の命はもう長くはないんですが、英訳を含めいろいろとお世話になりました。ありがとうございました」とお礼の電話を下さって、返す言葉もなかったです。

今でも先生のことを考えると、涙が出てしまいます。

今後、アニメ化が実現したらいいなと一ファンとして願い続けます。そして、より多くの方がアライブを読んで欲しいと思います。

河島先生、私の方こそいろいろとお世話になり、本当にありがとうございました。心よりご冥福をお祈り致します。

Alive, concluded.
The manga series "Alive: The Final Evolution" concluded with volume 21. I see, so that's how it ended. This manga makes the reader think about "life" and "death" through a very engaging storyline. This is one of those manga stories I can reread over and over without ever getting bored. (^_^)

Next, to some very sad news...

The other day, the announcement of the Alive anime project being dropped was rather disappointing, but soon after that, the announcement of Kawashima-sensei passing away on June 15 tore me apart with deep sorrow and overflowing tears.

Through the English translation of Alive, I was blessed with the opportunity to read this wonderful manga and meet the writer, Kawashima-sensei. Looking back, Kawashima-sensei put undue stress on his body and came all the way to Okinawa to see me during his bout with cancer... it's hard for me to find words to describe my feelings.

Also, one week before he passed away, he actually called me from the hospital to say, "My life is nearing its end, so I wanted to thank you for everything you did for me, including the English translation of my manga." I really didn't know how to respond to him.

Even now, when I think of Kawashima-sensei, it's hard to hold back tears.

As a fan, I hope that Alive gets animated someday, and hope that even more people will read and enjoy Alive as much as I do.

Kawashima-sensei, it's me who should thank you for everything you did for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. May you rest in peace.

PS. Not only Japanese fans, but American fans are also saddened by the loss.
